What to except during a pelvic floor therapy initial evaluation?
During your initial pelvic floor therapy evaluation, my focus is to understand you comprehensively, considering your medical background and personal history, to address your concerns effectively.
Initially, you'll be asked to complete a questionnaire detailing your medical history and any current conditions. We'll then delve into your primary issues and assess how they're impacting your daily life. I'll engage in a detailed discussion to pinpoint the origins and implications of your pain, difficulties, and limitations. Some questions might appear unrelated at first, but rest assured, they are part of a broader effort to uncover underlying causes and aspects of your health history.
Following this, I'll evaluate your posture, range of motion, muscular strength, and other necessary motor functions.
Concerning internal palpation, it's not a mandatory part of the initial evaluation. We only proceed with internal assessment when it's deemed essential to fill gaps in our understanding, and always with your consent and comfort as priorities. It's crucial to note that pelvic floor rehabilitation isn't exclusively about internal procedures; many effective exercises can be performed externally.
It's worth mentioning that while some may initially hesitate about internal palpation, many women find it beneficial in recognizing muscle contractions, aiding significantly in their at-home exercise regimen.
To conclude the session, we'll review and possibly adjust certain daily routines to foster better pelvic health. You'll also receive two or three exercises to practice at home before our next meeting.
See you soon at Pelvic Fleur Rehab Livermore, CA.
